This 2-hour is a combination of lecture and interactive hands-on training. It is designed to increase awareness of the dangers of negligence to self and others, and to enhance skills in life-saving wound management when gunshot wounds occur.

Topics covered will include, but are not limited to

• Review of basic ballistics

• Bullet penetration (entrance), cavitation, ricochet, and exit

• Head wounds

• Chest wounds

• Abdomen/pelvis wounds

• Extremity wounds

• Written exam

• Hands-on workshop - assessing wounds stopping bleeding, stabilization for medical transport

Class Presented by: Dr Louis DiBernardo, MD, MPH Lietenant Colonel, Unites States Army Medical Corps

Dr. Louis DiBernardo graduated from the University of San Diego School of Medicine in 1999 and completed his residencey training in Family Practice at the UC Irvine Family Medicine Residency Program. He additionallycompleted his Masters Degree in Public Health in 2008 from the University of California, Los Angeles. He joined the United States Army Reservesafter the events of September 11, 2001 as a Field Surgeon and Medical Officer. He has held multiple roles of leadership in the Army, and has been mobilized four times, including to Iraq in 2009. He additionally served as a volunteer firefighter for Home Gardens Station #13 in Corona, CA from 2007 - 2010, and has had a very diverse civilian medical career. He is an Adjunct Faculty Professor in Santa Ana College’s Math and Science Division, teaching Human Anatomy, and haspreviously held other professorship posts at UC Irvine and West Coast University. He currently works full-time as an Urgent Care phycision at two locations, teaches part time, and is still an active Reservist in the U.S. Army.
